NO water in the hydrants, and Trump blamed the wildfires on California’s governor, who accused Newsom of prioritizing “worthless” fish instead of letting more water flow south

President-elect Donald Trump has directly blamed the governor of California for the unprecedented wildfires raging in some of the swankiest neighborhoods in Los Angeles.

The Republican sharply criticized Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom as four fires, including the Palisades fire, swept through Los Angeles County, killing at least two people.

Trump accused Newsom of prioritizing “worthless” fish instead of letting more water flow to Southern California.

“Governor Gavin Newscombe refused to sign the Water Restoration declaration submitted to him that would have allowed millions of gallons of excess rain and snowmelt water from the north to flow daily into many parts of California, including areas that are currently burning in an almost apocalyptic fashion,” Trump wrote Wednesday morning on his Truth Social platform.

“He wanted to protect an essentially worthless fish called smelt by reducing the amount of water (but it didn’t work!). But they don’t care about the people of California.”

Trump claimed that the people of California are now paying the “ultimate price” for decisions the California governor made during his first term in the White House.

Trump wrote, “I will ask this incompetent governor to let beautiful, clean, fresh water flow into California!” He should be held accountable.”

“The worst thing is, the fire hydrants are out of water, the firefighting planes are out of water. What a disaster!”

Trump appeared to be referring to a presidential ban he signed in February 2020 to divert water from northern California to farmland areas in the southern and central parts of the state.

On the day of Trump’s announcement, Newsom vetoed the measure, calling it “a harmful attack on our state’s critical ecosystem and environment.”

Newsome said at the time, “We will file a legal action in the coming days challenging a federal biological view to protect endangered fish species from extinction.”

On Wednesday, Newsom’s communications director Izzy Gardon responded to Trump’s social media posts, saying “our focus is on protecting lives and putting out fires, not playing politics.”

Garden told Fox News: “There is no such thing as a water restoration manifesto, it’s a fiction. The governor’s focus is on protecting people, not playing politics, and making sure firefighters have all the resources they need.”

Newsom declared a state of emergency on Tuesday and on Wednesday canceled a trip to Washington, D.C., to attend a memorial service for former President Jimmy Carter.

The Palisades Fire, the Eaton Fire near Altadena and Pasadena, and the smaller Hearst Fire and Woolsey Fire have forced the evacuation of more than 70,000 residents.

Newsom said he intends to lobby officials for more federal funding before Democratic President Joe Biden leaves the White House.

“Gavin Newsom has arrived, ready to take a photo and watch his state burn to the ground,” TikTok’s Libs wrote on the X (formerly Twitter) account.

Trump repeatedly criticized Newsom during his first term for his handling of the California wildfires. In January 2019, Trump threatened to withhold federal funding from California if the state did not reform its forest management Service.

On Wednesday afternoon, Trump also took a swipe at Biden, writing on the Truth Social: “There is no water in the fire hydrants and no money for FEMA.” That’s what Joe Biden left me. Thanks, Joe!”

Boiling water Warning: If you are going to drink water, please boil the water first, as water quality decreases during bushfires

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power has issued a boil water notice as brush fires continue to ravage Southern California.

The notice has been issued for Pacific Palisades and adjacent communities north of San Vicente Boulevard for the next 48 hours, the LADWP said.

“This applies to water that is used for brushing teeth, making ice cubes, and food preparation such as washing produce,” the LAWDP’s website said.

Officials said boiled tap water or bottled water should be used for drinking and cooking purposes. Tap water should be boiled for one minute and then cooled.

At a news conference Wednesday morning, Chief Executive Officer and Engineer Janisse Quiñones said the demand for LADWP has been “tremendous.” She explained that they’ve pushed their water systems to extreme levels for several hours straight.

With the increased use of the systems, the water pressure has lowered. Quiñones said as the pressure lowers the water quality also lowers.

“Please if you’re going to be drinking water you need to boil the water,” she said.

She encouraged customers across Los Angeles, not only in the Palisades to try and converse water. The fire departments and other agencies helping battle the flames need as much water as they can get.

“We are fighting a wildfire with an urban water system and that is really challenging,” she said.

Why did the rumored hot coaching figure accept an NFL head coaching job?

It looks like Matt Campbell is once again the hot coaching figure in the rumor mill.

Campbell, who led Iowa State to the first 10-game winning season in school history last year, is expected to interview for the head coaching job with the NFL’s Chicago Bears.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Campbell will at least pass an interview to become the storied franchise’s 19th head coach.

Campbell, 45, had been linked with coaching the Detroit Lions in 2021, but the team chose Dan Campbell instead. Dan Campbell led the Lions to the No. 1 seed in this year’s NFC playoffs. Campbell has also been rumored to coach the New York Jets.

Campbell had a number of winning seasons with the Cyclones while also delivering several high-level players to the league. Those players include San Francisco quarterback Brock Purdy, New York Jets running back Brees Hall and Jets teammate Will McDonald IV.

In December, Iowa State school officials announced that Campbell signed an eight-year contract extension that runs through the 2032 season. He is the third-longest-tenured coach in the program’s history and has a school-record 64 wins.

The Bears had previously interviewed Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel.

“It’s going to be a diverse group,” Chicago general manager Ryan Bolles said. “They will come from a variety of backgrounds, including offense, defense, special forces, college and professional teams; We’re doing everything we can to make sure we do it the right way.”

The Poles did announce that after the interview, the names of the candidates for the interview will be released to the public as long as they have the consent of the candidates.

The Bears fired Matt Eberfrus last season. Thomas Brown coached the last five games and was just 1-4.

Chicago’s roster includes former Heisman Trophy winner Kaleb Williams, the No. 1 overall pick in last year’s NFL draft. They also have wide receivers Keenan Allen, DJ Moore and ROM Odenzer, running back Dendre Swift and tight end Cole Kermett.

The Cyclones also lost an assistant coach when former player Kyle Kempt announced he had found a new job.

The Actons Lidia fire has blackened 50 acres and threatened homes, prompting an evacuation order in Acton County, Los Angeles

Evacuation orders have been issued in Acton, where firefighters are responding to a brush fire that broke out in the Los Angeles County town.

The Lidia Fire was reported shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday near the 5700 block of Soledad Canyon Road, according to Cal Fire. As of 3:55 p.m., the fire has grown to 80 to 100 acres with 30% containment. Due to the fire, the following areas have been ordered to vacate:

LAC-E085, LAC-E088, LAC-E123
In wake of the blaze, Soledad Canyon Road between Agua Dulce Canyon Road and Crown Valley Road has been shut down. It’s unclear when the road will reopen.

The fire comes as crews battle several other brush fires in Los Angeles County, including the Palisades Fire in Pacific Palisades, the Eaton Fire in Altadena, the Hurst Fire in Sylmar and the Woodley Fire in Sepulveda Basin.

How to watch ‘Chicago Med, Steven Weber Talks Getting ‘Down And Dirty’ To Resolve Goodwin’s Bloody …

Chicago Med is finally on the verge of arriving in the 2025 TV schedule. Although an early January winter premiere after a November fall finale isn’t too painful of a break, the cliffhanger at the end of 2024 had Sharon Goodwin’s (S. Epatha Merkerson) life in the balance and Dean Archer (Steven Weber) the only one with a chance at saving her. Speaking with CinemaBlend, Weber opened up about the show getting “down and dirty” with life-and-death cliffhangers in Med’s new era and how Season 10 picks up in the new year.

In case you missed the fall finale back in November and/or haven’t checked it out streaming with a Peacock subscription, Goodwin spent most of the episode bleeding out on the floor of her office after being stabbed by the widow of a woman who’d died because of a tough call the administrator had to make. She finally made a break for it when Archer arrived on her otherwise empty floor at Gaffney, but he only spotted her when the elevator doors were closing… and Cassidy was seemingly on the verge of stabbing Goodwin again.

Cue the credits rolling, of course, and fans having weeks to wait to find out Archer’s next move and Goodwin’s fate! Who would have guessed that Archer would start that episode depressed over being demoted and end with him as his boss’ only hope of survival? When I spoke with Steven Weber during NBC’s One Chicago winter press event, he clarified whether there was a break between filming the fall finale and the winter premiere, saying:

Oh, no, we went right on. There’s a kind of emotional momentum, or dramatic momentum, that they kept going. There’s no real break, so it was really good to continue on and see if we resolved what we set up so beautifully.

The promo for the first installment of 2025 certainly indicated that the story wouldn’t pause for even a moment after Archer’s horrified reaction to seeing Goodwin’s bloody state, and that was evidently the case behind the scenes. I went on to ask the actor if the same director worked on both episodes for an easy transition or if there was a switch in the middle of the sequence, and Weber explained:

There was a switch, but it’s interesting because there’s also a slight tone switch. Everybody is in constant communication with each other, so it’s not like one is really fast and suddenly we segue into this kind of turgid, slow, dark thing. No, everybody is very well equipped at maintaining the flavor and the energy of all the episodes, but it was interesting. I think people will be surprised, thrilled, pleased. Maybe! We’ll see. But questions get answered, new questions are posed. It’s gonna be pretty good.

Confirmation of questions being answered certainly sounds good to me, since Med has been heavier on cliffhangers in Season 10 than previous seasons. With the medical drama’s fall finale standing as my favorite of the three One Chicago episodes that ended 2024, I noted that it was a stressful and wonderful way to conclude the fall finale, and Steven Weber agreed that “it was a great, a great thing to imbue this show with, to infuse the show with, with real dramatic tension that hooks everybody.”

Of course, of the three shows, Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. are historically the more likely ones to end a finale with a main character’s life in the balance, and Goodwin is arguably the most essential character in the show. There are plenty of doctors who can fill in for each other in the ED if needed, but Goodwin? Certainly not. Steven Weber weighed in on this life-and-death cliffhanger from the fall finale as part of Med’s new era under new showrunner Allen MacDonald:

That’s a function of Allen MacDonald and [producer] Anna Dokoza, who ably picked up the gauntlet that [former showrunners] Andy [Schneider] and Diane [Frolov] kind of placed gently down. As great as they are and as great as the shows were, this season has been amped up. The connections are deeper. It’s been a real infusion of energy and enthusiasm on the part of not only the cast, but the crew as well. Everybody has been really chuffed, getting down and dirty. Also with our fantastic DP, who has again added a lot of texture and a lot of depth to the world, to Gaffney, and to the whole Chicago Med world. It’s been great. It’s been a real shot in the arm, as we doctors say.

Allen MacDonald was entirely new to One Chicago when he arrived to take over Med as showrunner, after the departures of previous EPs/showrunners Andrew Schneider and Diane Frolov. While the newcomer didn’t speak with his predecessors prior to Season 10, he got to work by watching the first 176 episodes, and Steven Weber has only had high praise for how the show has gotten “gritty” this time around. Or, in the context of Goodwin’s cliffhanger, “down and dirty” for the winter premiere!

The winter premiere is nearly here, but if you want an early taste of the action ahead, check out the promo below!

Tune in to NBC on Wednesday, January 8 at 8 p.m. ET for the winter premiere of Chicago Med, called “No Love Lost.” As always, Med leads into Chicago Fire at 9 p.m. ET and then Chicago P.D. at 10 p.m. ET. The network is bringing all three shows together before the end of the month for the first three-part crossover event since 2019, so there’s a lot for fans to look forward to in the new year.

The FAA investigated the cause of the collision: the aircraft collided on a taxiway at O ‘Hare Airport, with no injuries

American Airlines and the Federal Aviation Administration say the wing of an American Airlines passenger jet struck the tail of a United Airlines jet at O ‘Hare Airport Wednesday morning.

The wingtip of an American Airlines Flight 1979 bound for Los Angeles struck the tail of a United Airlines Flight 219 bound for Honolulu around 10 a.m. as the two planes were taxiing on separate taxiways, aviation officials said
No one was injured in the incident, and the United Airlines plane is currently undergoing a thorough examination.

Another plane will take the passengers to Hawaii.

Passengers on the American Airlines flight were deplaned at the gate and would take off on a replacement plane on Wednesday afternoon, a spokesman said.

The American Airlines plane involved has been taken out of service for inspection.

“We apologise to customers for the inconvenience this has caused,” the spokesman said.

Officials said the impact on airport operations would be minimal.

The FAA will investigate the cause of the collision.

In 2024, there were 21 “runway incursions” at O ‘Hare. These incidents are near-misses, where the plane (or anyone on the tarmac) is in the wrong place at the wrong time, either by accident or due to confused instructions. The security risks of all events fall into the two lowest event categories.

The last time O ‘Hare had A Category A runway incursion – the most serious collision or near miss – was in 2015.
